Day 16: Something You Love

Letter To My Husband

Dear sweet man I get to call mine,

I am sorry that I am so crazy.  My anxiety monster has a way of taking over without me noticing and I am not always the nicest person to you.  But I love you.  Sometimes I blow up on you simply because I can’t control my body.  Like when my eye is twitching or my panic attacks go crazy.  But I love you.

I’m sorry I don’t take my medicine like I’m supposed to and make your peaceful evening turn into Megan’s crazy person party because I’m hard headed.  But I love you.  I’m sorry I don’t say thank you when you tell me I’m beautiful or wonderful.  I know you mean it.  I don’t mean to not believe you I just can’t seem to find that in myself enough to agree.  But I love you.

Thank you for getting my water in the middle of the night.  Thank you for washing clothes.  Thank you for laughing at me when I’m pouting.  Thank you for dragging me kicking and screaming out of the house to go and enjoy myself on a date or with my friends even though the social anxiety monster says no.  But I love you.

Thank you for chasing after me for so many years until I realized you were perfect for me.  Thank you loving me unconditionally not matter what.  Thank you for making all of my bad days better just by getting a hug from you.  I’m sorry I’m a poopy wife sometimes….But I love you.

Forever and Ever

Day 15: Favorite Author

I know I have written more than once about my love of a good fluff book but my favorite favorite favorite author in the whole world is JANE AUSTEN.  I’m pretty positive I have read Pride and Prejudice at least 20 times.  I have all 6 novels on my book shelf.  I also have the complete works of Jane Austen that has not only those novels but poems and letters as well.  There are also movies for pretty much every book too which makes it even better.  If you have not read one of her books you need to!

Back to my love of Pride and Prejudice.  There is the Kiera Knightly version of the movie which is all well and good but my favorite rainy day thing to do is to pull out my 3 hour A & E version with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth.  Not having a love for Colin Firth is just not fathomable to me.  Especially when he is Mr. Darcy who is everyone’s perfect man and wearing a wet white shirt coming out of the lake.  I actually really like this version because it does not stray from the book.  It was almost verbatim actually.

The other book I really liked was Mansfield Park.  I read this book in college and it was a challenge to get through.  The story in the end was wonderful but 20 pages describing the shrubbery can be a little trying at times.  I also love this movie too.  I had some definite points were it strayed from the book but I still loved it.  The funny thing about this one is that no matter how many times I watch it I still hope for a different outcome.  I want Henry Crawford to know be a screw up so bad.  But he fails me every time.

Day 13: Favorite Foods

I was sort of excited to do this one until last night.  I’m not one to toot my own horn but I can cook pretty well.  I like to take recipes and make them my own.  I like to try new things.  Well last night (after working a double at my 2nd job) I thought I’d be smart and make blackened chicken and spinach madeline.  I smoked out the kitchen with my chicken and caught my spinach on FIRE in the oven.  Not such a good food night.  So maybe PB & J sandwiches for tonight and just a fun blog about foods I like to eat and successful recipes with them.  My challenge says I have to do 10 so lets see if I can.

1.  Goat Cheese – I didn’t discover this until I was older but I LOOOOOOOVE it.  The first thing I really liked this with is the Chicken Bryan at Carabbas.  I like to make spinach and goat cheese stuffed chicken with prosciutto and breadcrumbs.  I kinda have my own recipe for this one but mine is pretty close to this.

2.  Peanut Butter – I hate peanuts but I think peanut butter is the best invention known to man.  I eat it with all sort of things…on a sandwich, on a cracker, in candy, in a smoothie, in baked goods….its just soooo yum.  My favorite way though is a really simple recipe that makes cheerio treats (  I personally like it better with frosted flakes but still good).

3. Potatoes – I probably should have put this one first.  Potatoes are to me what shrimp are to Bubba on Forest Gump.  Mashed Potatoes, Roasted Potatoes, French Fries, Tator Tots….My favorite way to eat them at this moment, which is so incredibly bad for you, is Poutine.  Potatoes with cheese and gravy, uh hello can you say delicious.

4.  Pesto – we have already established that I am a wannabe Italian.  One of my favorite flavor combinations is basil and garlic.  It doesn’t have to be in a fancy pasta it could be just a really good sandwich.  I don’t usually make my own pesto because pine nuts are majorly expensive but this is a good recipe for it.

5. Tomato Soup – like my weird peanut thing I think raw tomatoes are gross but I thoroughly enjoy cooked ones.  Tomato soup is my absolute fav.  I’ve had it from every different restaurant and tried every kind of can but the end all for me was on a trip to California to the Corner Bakery for their Roasted Tomato Soup.  I found the copy cat recipe and make it pretty often.

6. Salty Stuff – ok so there is no recipe for this but when I want to snack I never want candy or ice cream or anything like that.  I want  salt!  my favorite things to eat are pickles, olives and sour cream and onion Pringles.

7. Pineapple- this is definitely my favorite fruit.  I love just eating it from the can.  But the best way to eat pineapple is with a Dole Whip.  Here goes my Disney side again but its my favorite treat to get there.  This is a copy cat version I’ve done before that’s pretty good but nothing beats the original.

8. Broccoli – The dreaded green vegetable.  I refused to eat this when I was little like most small children but my taste  buds changed and now I can’t get enough.  I like to eat it steamed or with cheese but the best way to eat it is in alfredo pasta.  I make this at home all the time.

9. Lemon – As funny as my face looks when I eat raw lemons that is not how I like to indulge in this one.  I think a little lemon juice brightens up any dish.  I especially like to add it to seafood dishes like anything with shrimp or scallops.  I also like lemon in sweet items as well.  Lemon tarts are a treat I especially like to indulge in.

10.  Anything Made By MawMaw – For those of you not from the south Mawmaw is my grandmother.  She is the best cook on this entire planet.  She makes the best crawfish etouffee, rice and gravy, pork chops and peanut butter and syrup sandwiches.  Even chicken nuggets fried by Mawmaw are better than any I could do.

Now that I’ve officially made myself hungry I’ll head home to make dinner.  Instead of PB & J maybe I’ll do homemade beef and broccoli with fried rice.  Hopefully I don’t burn the house down.  Happy eating everyone!

Day 12: The Best Movie Ever

Movies are my hobby.  I am not a cinematic professor but I do frequent the $5 movie rack and I know a good one when I see one.  Its hard to say what my absolute 100% all time favorite movie ever is.  I have deeply loved many movies, The Little Mermaid, Never Been Kissed, Meet Me in St. Louis, but the one that sticks out to me is When Harry Met Sally.  Let me just say pretty much any 80s movie is awesome.  Even better is any 80s movie with Meg Ryan.

405169ac0b151ac7ef2a1089760613c3

This movie is the perfect Rom-Com.  Its funny.  Its romantic.  Its witty.  Its heart-felt.  I love it all.  Most people only know this film for the very iconic “I’ll have what she’s having scene”.  While this is very amusing it is certainly not the best part.  Rob Reiner who also directed another one of my favorites, The Princess Bride, did such a wonderful job with this film.  It has Princess Leia as the super awesome best friend.  Billy Crystal is hilarious and lovable and you would fall for him too.  I especially like the interviews with couples throughout the movie who talk about how they meet.  The best part by far though is the speech that Harry gives at the end of the movie.  If you are concerned about a spoiler DON’T WATCH.  But if you don’t care and wanna see the best movie speech ever go ahead and click below.  You won’t regret it.

Day 11: Awesome YouTube Video

My favorite YouTube video is less of a video and more of a channel that I really really enjoy.  Through our tough times my husband and I like to pretend that we going to run away to Disney World.  It is no surprise I am a huge lover of all things Disney.  I even managed to convert my husband to a Disney fanatic as well.

Since we know that running away isn’t really an option we like to plan trips instead.  Trips that are in the very distant future but trips all the same.  We started to watch YouTube videos with POV of rides just for fun.  Then we discovered a channel call The Time Tracker.  Its daily vlogs from a couple, Tim and Jen, from Orlando.  Yes they have some really great Disney videos and Universal too but they are just great to watch.  We have watched so many videos we feel like we are friends with this couple. Tim is pretty cool and has a sweet mustache to boot while I have total envy of Jens array of different Mickey ears.

If you like anything Disney or Universal or simply want to learn a little about the parks check them out!

Day 10: A Great Memory

**Before I start this post I first want to take a moment to express my deepest sympathies for those involved in last nights movie theater shooting in Lafayette.  What sort of world are we leaving in where this can happen.  I don’t know if you are a praying person or not but if you are are send some prayers to Louisiana.  This one was a little too close to home. **

I’ve lived a very full 28 years so far so there are a lot of memories I could go back to.  I think I will choose one that wasn’t just an event but a big part of who I was and how I became the person I am today.  When I was in high school I joined a club called GPA.  GPA stood for the Governor’s Program on Abstinence.  Though this organization has since dissolved it was something I truly believed in and cherished.  I was the public relations director for my high school club for two years.  Being an officers meant that I got to go to all of the annual events and I had the opportunity to apply for one of the awards the club offered.  When I was a senior I wrote and essay and interviewed for a Distinguished Service Award.  This award was given to high school seniors who showed leadership promise and in turn was rewarded with a trip to Washington D.C. for training that would be used throughout the year.  I never thought I would win let alone be able to travel with two close friends from my high school.

009 001

I spent 10 of the best days with a group of 50 or so students from all across Louisiana.  We were surprised the week before with information that we were going to be able to go to New York for the first day of our trip.  We rode for 36 hours on a bus and hopped off smelly and excited at Ground Zero.  It was a truly moving experience.  I can also say I ate an authentic street vendor hot dog, walked through Time Square and stood in front of Tiffany’s wishing I was Audrey Hepburn.

003 007004

On the second day of our trip we travel to Washington D.C. on the 4th of July.  We had such an amazing time celebrating at the National Mall listening to the O’Jays and Gloria Estefan.  I’m pretty sure we had the longest Love Train out there.  For the next week we took leadership classes and learned not only about how to lead others but to find in ourselves the confidence and strengths we each possessed to make our teams work.  In the evening we traveled to the monuments and learned about our nation’s history.

006 008

The best thing about this trip was the friends that I made.  I have several of them, that 10 years later, I still keep in contact with.  One of the greatest friendships I gained was with Kelli.  She sat quietly on the bus next to us for probably the first 2 hours of the trip until I brought up the musical Evangeline.  For those of you not from Louisiana this is a wonderful play about Longfellow’s poem.  We bonded over that moment and have been friends ever since.  I am forever grateful for that conversation.

For all my fellow GPAers out there I hope this brings back some great memories for you too.

Day 9: Favorite Hobby

There are lots of things that I really enjoy.  I like to sing, I like to paint, I like to do craft problems and I love to cook.  My absolute favorite thing in the whole world to do is DANCE.  I don’t mean dancing at the club kind of dancing, not that there is anything wrong with that, I mean technical, ballet positions, shuffle ball changes and everything else that comes with it.

I danced for 17 years between two studios.  The first studio I took with, Bunnys aka Fancy Footworks, established my love of dance.  I learned all the technical aspects and was challenged to try new things.  I took ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical and pointe while I was there.  I also made some really great friends that I still talk to 20 years later.  I also really treasure the bond I felt with my teachers.  Most of the studio was run by sisters and the studio itself was attached to their mom’s house.  Sweet Ms Teta along with Ms Bunny and Mauren came to visit me at my second job the other day and it genuinely warmed my heart to see them.  I know they will forever hold a special place in my heart.  The second studio I danced for was Jennifer’s Dancing Angels.  This was a completely different type of studio.  Ms Jennifer who is a wonderful person traded my dance teaching services for classes I could take.  I felt so fulfilled during my time there not only doing what I loved but helping to build self esteem and friendships amongst my students.

The second part of my dance journey has been working with the performing arts department at work.  I spent 3 years choreographing for the show choir.  I also choreographed for two musicals.  It was there that I realized how much I had truly learned all those years.  I also learned that I have a good instinct when it comes to music and dance.  I’ve had to take a little break from all the dancing which is a big bummer for me but i know it will forever be a part of my heart and my soul.

And just for fun some nice blast from the past…

Day 8 : #1 on the Bucket List

My bucket list is pretty long.  I don’t know about you people but there are a lot of things I want out of this life; Own my home, buy a boat, take an RV road trip, see shows on broadway.  I could go on for days.  There are lots of places I would like to travel to on my list as well but the thing that beats out everything else for me is to do a culinary tour of Italy.  This may make me sound like a serious fatty but I love Italian food.  What other place could you possibly go to experience Italian food in its most authentic forms.

There are so many places I could go but these would be my top spots:

1.  Amalfi Coast – SEAFOOD.  That’s all you need to say and I’m in.  The Amalfi Coast is off the Mediterranean and is known as a fishing village.  There are lots of fresh catches to feast on that will no doubt be covered in the most perfect lemon juice known to man since they are also a big provider of.   My dream dish for there is Seafood Cioppino.  Crab, shrimp, scallops, tomato broth….yum

2. Tuscany – Who doesn’t want to be under the Tuscan Sun?!?!  Tuscan food is explained to be “poor man” food.  That to me just means that its gonna be yummy like good southern or soul food.  You can get panzanella salad, antipasta, Tuscan style steaks and biscottis.  I am a huge fan of tomato soup and Tuscany has Pappa al Pomodoro which is tomato soup and bread with lots of basil

Pappa al Pomodoro

3.  Sicily – I’m not sure why but when I think of Sicily I think of old grandmas like Sophia from the Golden Girls.  And if old grandmas are making my food it just can’t taste bad.  You can get Caponata with eggplant and pine nuts.  Sea Urchin spaghetti or fried rice call Arancini stuffed with ragu.

 4. Rome – This is one place I would like to go not just for the food but for the sites as well.  I would love to see the Vatican and the Coliseum, but I would like to do so while eating carbonara.  The thing I want most though is to eat a Roman style margarita pizza.

No matter where I go I will be eating well!!!

Day 7: What I Miss Most

Life is tough.  Sometimes its harder for some than it is for others.  Sometimes you have to grow up faster, leave college early or get married young.  No one thing makes our lives different so blame can’t be placed on anyone who had to “grow up”.  However, I blame myself on an almost daily basis that I’ve messed some things up in the process of me having to grow up.  My wonderful, amazing, priceless friends.  I tell my husband all the time how terrible of a friend I am.  I’ve never done anything intentionally or with malice to any of them, but I feel like my early actions started a snowball effect that I will never recover from.

When I was in high school and when I started college I was fun person.   Its even hard for me to believe this is the truth but it really was at one point in my life.  I was not afraid to go to parties, go out to watch a band, have people over at all hours of the night, try new things.  I was a chicken most of the time which was normal but I was pretty much down for whatever.

1933760_550229952835_6934_n 1910235_548479475805_3412_n 1929148_528608711975_9741_n 1928793_550228705335_3587_n 1928303_579865448065_4610_n 1927737_550228525695_3273_n

See I told you I was fun.  At least for a little while.  I’m not sure if it was the anxiety, getting married or just feeling inferior because I gave up on life while everyone else was getting their dreams but things changed.  When my anxiety was really bad in the beginning I would cancel plans.  So people stopped calling.  When I was working more than one job to pay the mortgage and couldn’t do things.  People stopped asking.  I place no blame in these situations except with myself.

Now we are older and everyone is getting married and having babies I feel like I let myself get left behind.  The wonderful thing about my friends is that I could call them right now and they would do anything for me.  If I need them they are there 100%.  But I don’t want to have relationships where the only thing I share with them are tough times or when I’m in crisis.  I want all the good stuff too.  The fun stuff.  I know with all these babies I have a little trouble relating these days but I still want to be there and share the special moments.  Just like if I’m lucky enough to be a mama some day I want them there with me too.

So what do I miss the most….Adrienne, Amanda, Adele, Kelli, Jessel, Michelle, Coley, Courtney, Mark, Tyler, Matt, Justin, Josh and so many more.  If any of you read this one.  I love you! and I promise I will do better.
